Every once in awhile you come across an artist who taps on the windowpane just a little bit differently then the rest of them. Jeff Murillo is just that type of person. His photographs are striking, but familiar, action packed, yet frozen in time. There is something about the creative force that makes one's work that much different than another's and Mr. Murillo has his finger on that trigger.

Jeff Murillo is the Manager of Digital Photography for DC Shoes, in Carlsbad, Ca. and his photographs are seen by many in the action sports world and retail fashion industry around the world. While he shoots primarily for catalogs, much of his work is what you'd call "Still Life with watercolor," - shots of shoes and clothes just sitting there suspended in time. But it is the way they sit that makes them unique and Jeff has a natural talent for arranging the planets just so. Now add a human here or there and have them doing something spectacular and well, you get the picture, and if you don't then check out his portfolio to find out just how good his shots are.

His photos are lighting up the industry in such a way as to make some huge dents in fashion and action photography and people are starting to take notice. Maybe it's his equipment, or the lights. It could be the characters and crew he photographs, or maybe, just maybe this shutterbug has an eye that sets him apart from the rest.

Jeff's type of creative talent bears witness to the fact that what is wanted, that which is sought, has a sense of difference that makes us all sit up and take notice right out of the gate. His methodology is steeped in some deep rooted well that only he has the formula for pulling out. It's not an easy feat to get a subject to react, or bring it on, show their attitude, and bring out who they really are. That is what makes good photographs great. Whether it is in the studio, on the street, on a wave, a ramp, up in the air, or sitting on the back of a tailgate waiting for your turn to go off, catching the moment for all of us to wonder at later is the hardest part of the deal...

We asked him to tell us a little bit about himself in between photo shoots and airports, chaotic management meetings and model releases, So much to do and so little time to pull it all off.

Jeff Murillo makes you feel apart of the photo as he brings it all back home. Here is what he has to say.

Bringing It All Back Home

I'm getting ready to leave for Utah for a photo shoot for my current employer, DC Shoes. I'm always worried I'm going to forget something that it wakes me in my sleep. I've been with DC for a little over four years and things are going great, while currently managing the Digital Studio. DC advertising and imagery is the backbone to the company, this is where the magic happens! Being a staffed photographer at a company like this is too cool. I've photographed many people in the limelight, from legendary motocross mogul Jeremy McGrath to mega artist Phil Frost.
