A Photographers Profile on Tom Keck

Kimo Hollinger
Waimea Bay in 1964. This shot was a slide. Some of the others from this day were also lost in the flood. I had Ricky Grigg and Peter Cole from that day as well. That was Kodachrome 64, I scanned it as a positive and it came out okay. I was living over there and going to BYU. I lived at Kewala Bay and the rest of the time at Pupukea at 259 Ke Nui Road, that is where the dip is. The break right in front of my rental was Pupakea. I was always ready to go. We were in the Pipe area alot and very few people were surfing it. Phil surfed it but I missed that day cause I had to go to class.

1960 Huntington contest
I shot this from the pier. I think this was 1964 at the US Surfing Championships contest. Notice to the right, down by the water next to his tripod is Bud Brown. The guy way up high on the scaffolding is Jim McKay of ABC sports. The next scaffolding down is the judges. I like the look with the long boards sticking in the sand. You can't see how big the surf is here but it was big this day.

Joel Tudor
Oxbow contest going left on the nose. 1993 Haleiwa. I have a whole book on Joel. I have been shooting Joel since he was 12. I have to go over to his mom's and find out what years some of the shots of him were taken.

Joel Tudor again
This was for the LA Times newspaper during a contest. Shot in black and white. I worked 3 days a week for the Times then. I pitched the stories to the Photo Editor, Bob Grieser. He said to go ahead. This was in Oceanside.
