He did this for years in an underground way.

"About four years ago my wife got me a gift certificate to a lumber company after I'd told her I wanted to try and make a Balsa board."

"So I made a chambered Balsa Board and wanted to put a nice fin on it and my imagination just kind of went crazy with me and I have been putting wood fins together ever since."

"When I was thirteen I had a Gordie three stringer with Aqua blue panels and a rising sun pattern. I really liked that design.

Remember the old Stoner, Griffin, Severson stuff. Every Woody had a surfboard with a different fin pattern on it hanging out the back. I love that.

You just don't see it that much anymore. So, when the longboard nostalgia came back, it was just the natural thing to do."

How did John Cherry get started in a new industry with an old design? The best way possible!
